Skydiving in memory of my sister

My name is Natasha Knight, in memory of my sister who took her own life on September 26th, 1999, I will be sky diving to raise funds for mental health. The jump will take place at Skydive Gananoque on her birthday June 16th at 1:00pm. As a family member you struggle with a number of emotions; anger, sadness and most of all guilt. You often wonder could I have done something different? It was difficult for me to understand why my sister would choose to leave behind a loving family and I have come to realize that she was ill. I wish everyday that I could bring her back but I can’t. I was unable to help my sister at the time but I know I can help others and so can you. In July 2012, Rob Tweedy will be competing in Ironman Lake Placid – The second oldest Ironman in North America and one of the most popular events in the sport. The event will take him 13-17 hours to complete, and immeasurable hours of training, while raising awareness and funds for The Royal and mental health. Silkken Laumann – Ottawa band, SILKKEN LAUMANN, has released their first single/video “On The Mend” from their forth-coming debut album, “Not Forever Enough”.

The song will be available for free download, or a pay-what-you-can donation to The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre via: silkkenlaumann.bandcamp.com.
Donations will support The Royal’s goal to get more people suffering from mental illness into remission faster, and to transform the way major depression is treated.

In memory of Davi Freire, his friends and family are taking part in the 2nd Annual ‘Run for Davi’. Davi died by suicide in 2010 at the young age of 27. As an avid runner and participant in past race weekends, this team has chosen to honour him by doing two things he loved to do – running and shining a light on mental health.

The journey starts before you even step on the starting line. It begins with setting goals, logging countless training hours and kilometers in rain, sun and snow. From coast to coast, training runs are mapped with one common destination: Canada’s premiere Ottawa Race Weekend.
